South Africa's under 17 women's football team, Bantwana lost their opening match at the under 17 FIFA World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago. They went down by three goals to one against South Korea in Port of Spain.
The South Africans thrilled the crowd with their ball skills in the opening minutes of the match. They had a chance to open their account when they were awarded a penalty, but Mapule Kgoale's shot was well off target. Jermaine Seoposenwe also missed two other scoring opportunities.
The game began to develop an end to end feel and the Koreans asked some questions of the South African defence.'Yeo Min Ji beat the off-side trap to score the first goal of the match.
Bantwana started the second half strongly and they were rewarded as Robyn Moodaly put through Seoposenwe for the equaliser eight minutes after the break.
But these celebrations were short lived when Yeo grabbed her second goal of the match to regain the lead. Try as they might, Bantwana were unable to haul themselves back into the match.
Shim Damyeong sealed it with a header 12 minutes from the end.
South Africa's next match is on Wednesday against the mighty Germans who routed Mexico 9-0 in an earlier match.
